Purpose
The Northeast Cooperative Council (NECC) recognizes the ongoing need for future leaders who are prepared to guide cooperative businesses through an evolving economic, social, and regulatory landscape. As cooperatives engage in the global economy, respond to social change, and navigate emerging issues and opportunities, leadership development is critical.

To address this need, the NECC supports student engagement through internships with NECC member organizations. These experiences encourage students to explore careers in cooperative enterprises and gain firsthand insight into the unique structure and values of cooperative businesses.

Universities with CIRA recipients include:

  • University of Connecticut
  • University of Vermont
  • University of Massachusetts, Amherst
  • Cornell University
  • State University of New York at Cobleskill
  • State University of New York at Morrisville
  • Hartwick College
  • The Pennsylvania State University
  • Shippensburg University

The NECC Cooperative Intern Recognition Award (CIRA) recognizes outstanding students who successfully complete and in good standing. Up to 5 students will each receive a 1,000 award to be presented at the organization’s Cooperative Leaders Forum.
